We're back with the last installment of Immutable's Developer Blog for 2024, showcasing the latest and greatest Immutable has to offer. In this edition, we've got some huge updates to share, including new features, improvements to our developer resources, and a sneak peek at what's coming next.

New Features

Since we last checked in, we've been busy rolling out new some features and improvements to the Immutable platform. These include a new Add Tokens flow in the Commerce Widget, sanctions checks in Passport and the Commerce Widgets, and new player engagement features in Immutable Play.

Get your players purchase-ready with our new Add Tokens flow

Impacted Users: Game DevelopersPlayers

The new Add Tokens flow in our Commerce Widget intelligently reads your players' balances and suggests the fastest and most cost-effective way to add the tokens they need. Whether that's by bridging from another chain, swapping from a different token or on-ramping with fiat, we've run the numbers so your players don't have to.

Check out the Add Tokens product page for more information or try it now with the Checkout Playground.

Sanctions checks built into Passport and the Commerce Widgets

Impacted Users: Product ManagersDevelopers

We've added industry compliant sanctions checks directly into Passport and the Commerce Widgets. This means when you use either of these Immutable products in your game or website you can be confident you're reducing your exposure to sanctioned wallets and the risk of accepting tainted cryptocurrency.

The sanctions checks are included out of the box and have no impact on the user experience for non-sanctioned players. There is nothing you need to do except sit back and enjoy the extra level of protection.

Immutable Play just keeps getting better

Impacted Users: Product ManagersPlayers

Immutable Play continues to evolve as we add new features and tools to help players and game studios get the most out of our platform. Here are some of the latest features we've added:

  • Bids Notifications: Players using Passport can now receive live bid and collection bid notifications directly in Immutable Play.

  • Follow Games: Players can now follow their favorite games and receive updates about their latest news and events.

  • Onboarding Quests: Game studios can use onboarding quests to build engagement and reward players with gems for interacting with their content and community.

While these features are largely player focused, developers and game studios should be aware of the tools available to their players and how they can be used to drive engagement and retention.

You can check out the onboarding quests in action on Immutable Play. If you're interested in setting up landing page for your game and launching your own quests, you can reach out to your account manager directly or contact us on Discord for more information.

New and improved developer resources

We're always working hard to improve our developer docs to help you get the most out of the Immutable platform. Recently we've been focused on creating content for our new in-game marketplace functionality and the APIs that power them.

New in-game marketplace tutorials

Impacted Users: Game Developers

We've added two new tutorial series that tour you through the in-game marketplace in our sample games and teaches you the principals behind how they work in either Unity or Unreal respectively.

New generated APIs documentation

Impacted Users: Game Developers

We've added new documentation about our generated APIs to help you get started building player inventories and display active listings in your Unity or Unreal game.

Some of the in-game marketplace features are still currently in Alpha but you're welcome to try them out! If you experience any issues or have any feedback please reach out to us on Discord and let us know.

Upcoming Features

We're continually cooking up new features to make the platform even better for our partners and players. Here's a sneak peak of what's coming down the pipeline:

  • Improved Typescript SDK Reference to help developers integrate Immutable zkEVM into their web based applications and games.
  • More tools and features for Immutable Play to help game studios drive engagement and retention.
  • Typescript SDK upgrade to support Ethers v6.
  • and more!

As mentioned at the top, this is our last developer blog post for 2024. We'll be back again in the new year with more updates and insights once we're back on deck and moving full steam ahead again.

As always, happy building!
